August 22, 2015

The ladies of Los Alamos, M’atom Bombs, came to our cozy and humble track and rocked with our very own Juggernaughties!

It was team orange vs team pink and our ladies rocked it out through both halves. By halftime we were leading by double. M’atom Bombs 64 to Juggernaughties 136. The bout was intense with many skaters going to and from the penalty box. The announcers even had a running joke of there being a power jam on and off each team (this also continued through the next bout). Two of our very own were fouled out of the bout due to the amount of penalties (FU2 and 350). M’atom Bombs fought hard with their very own Knotty Dotty scoring more points than any other skater (49), though our MVP jammer Meep Meep scored close with 47. Sweetest Sting had a great game with both jamming and blocking, but she won MVP for most valuable blocker. Roz our fabulous official said that we lead the bout 69% of the time while our visitors only 29%. The most effective skater on Saturday was Meep Meep and for M’atom Bombs it was Nduce N Agony. Way to go ladies!

The final score was Juggernaughties 245 to M’atom Bombs 118. Here is what the M’atom Bombs had to say:

"The M'atom Bombs had so much fun playing the Juggernaughties! We love our derby sisters to the south and they have come such a long way in such a short time. It was fantastic to see how well they work as a team and it's inspiring to our new skaters to see. We had several skaters in their first game this weekend and the DCRD women made them all feel like superstars and the derby love was really felt. It never fails to amaze me how hard we can be fighting for the win and at the same time be so willing to laugh and joke around between jams. The camaraderie felt at derby is unlike anything most of us have ever experienced. Can't wait for a rematch!" –Nacho from LADD

The second bout of the day was for our very own home teams because they are back in action! Congratulations ladies the outfits were rockin’! Dooms Dames sported post-apocalyptic gear while our Disco Brawlers sported some flashy gold. Although looking good does count ladies both teams killed it on the track.

It was great to see a few new faces out there for the first time or the first time in a long time, welcome back Hear No Evil and for the first time ever Ms. Mayhem!   Both ladies worked hard out there and it showed.  Another new face is Kat Pope, she was nursing an injury and acted as bench coach for her Brawlers. Kat had this to say, “It was such an amazing bout. I think we really had a great match up in regards to skill levels that gave every player a challenge and great rewards. It was so exciting to see my team do so well. They were cohesive, a solid unit on the track that reaped an awesome victory. I can't wait to skate with them for the first time at our next home team bout on 10/10.”
