Saturday September, 12 2015 Bout Recap
Two teams from the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls out of Denver, CO joined our very own here to battle it out, and what a battle it was! Both games saw a lot of penalties, star passes, and very physical play under the heat of the Albuquerque sun!
The first game featured our Munecas Muertas up against the RMRG Contenders. The Contenders are Rocky Mountain’s “B” team, a team known to give many “A” teams a run for their money. However, this isn’t surprising considering their “A” team, the 5280 Fight Club, is ranked #14 in the WFTDA. The Contenders came out strong in the first few jams, but then our Munecas kicked it into high gear. Our blockers held the Contenders scoreless for 5 jams while our jammers racked up points, with the Munecas leading 64-31 after jam 10. Unfortunately the Munecas ran into some penalty trouble and the Contenders took the lead back with a score of 82-97 at the half. The second half was just as exciting as the first with more hard hits and more powerjams. The Contenders held the Munecas scoreless for 6 jams and were up by 42 points after jam 10. Towards the end of the game the Munecas had a few powerjams of their own, where our jammers fought through some very tough defensive walls. However, it was not enough to overtake the Contenders lead, and the game ended with a final score of Munecas 149 to Contenders 169. Munecas’ jammer Jerk of All Skates was our highest scoring jammer with 43 points. Contenders’ jammer, Frak Attak led point scoring with 70 points! Also a big congrats to Whoreticia Maddams for playing her first game with the Munecas! Great game ladies!
Contenders MVPs: Blocker Nikki Brixx and Jammer Frak Attak
Munecas MVPs: Blocker Killer Queen and Jammer Bampf!
Here’s what Fallen Angel had to say about the trip to Albuquerque “I had a GREAT time coming down and playing against Duke City! You ladies played a great game! A few of the reasons I love skating for the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls is the travel, all the awesome people I have been privileged to meet, and all the experiences it had given me. ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY! FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! ;) Thanks for having us!”
She also talked about a few goals the RMRG teams have on the track: “Contain and hold” the jammer. “You have to be physical like Victoria,” and a “four person wall is our biggest point for being an effective defense.”
The second game saw our Juggernaughties verses Project Mayhem, Rocky Mountain’s “C” team. The ladies from Rocky Mountain took charge from the beginning and held the lead throughout the entire game. Project Mayhem ruled the scoreboard with tough defensive walls and jammer speed. The Juggernaughties were down by a large margin at the half, but still gave it their all for the last 30 minutes of play. With ten minutes left and the score 57-203 Project Mayhem continued their tough defensive play and seemed to always find a way to sneak their jammers through. The ladies in pink had a few powerjams of their own, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Project Mayhem’s lead. They played their hearts out all the way until the final whistle and left it all on the track! The final score was 70-262, Project Mayhem. Special recognition to Pissy Long Stalker who played in her very first game with the Juggies! Great job ladies!
Project Mayhem MVPs: Blocker MotorButt and Jammer Sunshine
Juggernaughties MVPs: Blocker Fighting Girlfriend and Jammer Sweetest Sting
